Located 18 km from Brisbane central business district, is a large suburb called Calamvale. It is surrounded by suburbs Acacia Ridge, Sunnybank Hills, Runcorn, Stretton, Drewvale, Parkinson and Algester.

As of 2016, Calamvale had a population of 17,124 that consisted 51% female and 49% male. 39% of the Calamvale population consisted of people who were born in the country and 38.4% of the population consisted people who spoke English at home.

The name Calamvale got its name from an early settler and a landowner named James Calam. Their family built a homestead on a hill at the top of Calam Road. Before it was officially gazetted as a suburb in 1972, the area was already known as Calamvale. Urbanisation commenced in the early 1990s.

The schools in the suburb include Calamvale State School which was opened in 1955, Calamvale Special School in 1985, and Calamvale Community College which offers primary to secondary education.

When it comes to sporting, the team that represents the suburb to the Australian Football League is the Calamvale Leopards.

There are no train stations within Calamvale but it is serviced by nine bus routes operated by Brisbane Transport and Park Ridge Transit.
