Suburb Profile

Pool builders Oxley, Brisbane

Located 11 km south-west of Central Brisbane, is the suburb called Oxley. It is held under the Federal Division of Moreton.

This suburb was named after an Australian explorer John Joseph William Molesworth Oxley.

In accordance with the 2011 Australian census, Oxley had a population of 7, 291 people living in the area. The suburbs population consisted of 51.1% female and 48.9% male. 64.4% of the Oxley population was composed of people born in Australia. 72.2% of the population used the English language as they communicate at home. In 2016, the population went up to more than 8,000 individuals.

One of the early enterprises in the suburb is the production of sugar cane. 1n 1869, a cane crushing plant, a floating sugar mill and a distillery were established and started operating.

The urban development in the area commenced during the late 1950s. The fire station and the Canossa Home for the Aged were established in the area in 1955 and 1965, respectively.

Located south of Oxley is the Blunder Road Shopping centre.

The Oxley War Memorial is a heritage-listed site located at Oxley Road. On the 4th of July 2006, the memorial was added to the list of Queensland Heritage Register.

The neighbouring areas of Oxley are suburbs Seventeen Mile Rocks, Fig Tree Pocket, Corinda, Rocklea, Willawong, Inala, Durack, Richland and Darra.
