Located 17 kilometres southeast of the Brisbane Central Business District, is the southern suburb of Rochedale.

In accordance with the 2011 census, Rochedale recorded a population of 1,092, 49.5% were female and 50.5% were male. Rochedale's median age was 43, 6 years older compared to the Australian median of 37. 64.9% of the Rochedale population was composed of residents who were born in Australia and 72.4% of the population was made up of people who use the English language as they communicate at home.

The area got its name from the Roche family, who moved from Ireland to Australia in 1860. In 1868, their family created a homestead and called it Rochedale. Residential development in the area started during the early 1960s. In 1865, they started to cultivate the area's rich alluvial soil. Street names in the suburb are mostly names of their family members, such as Davey Street and Rhonda Street. They settled in the area until the early 1990s.

The Redeemer Lutheran College was opened in 1981.
