Tingalpa, a residential suburb in Brisbane, is 10 kilometres east of the Brisbane Central Business District.
According to the 2011 Australian census, Tingalpa garnered a population of more than 8,000 residents living in the area, 50.5% were female and 49.5% were male. The median age of the Tingalpa population was 35, 2 years lower compared to the national median.
The name was reportedly named after Tingalpa Creek, which is situated 3.1 miles east. It was also believed to be derived from Turrubal terms 'tangul' which means 'plant for stupefying fish' and 'pa' which means 'place'.
In 1841, Tingalpa Creek was surveyed and named 'Tingulpa', believed to be derived from an Aboriginal word meaning 'fat kangaroo'. In 1863, a Tingalpa township that is located on the west side of the creek was also surveyed.
One of the heritage-listed sites in the suburb is the Gothic Anglican Christ Church designed by Richard Suter, and was added to the list of Queensland Heritage Register on the 27th day of October 2000.
The neighbouring suburbs of Tingalpa are Hemmant, Wynnum West, Wakerley, Gumdale, Belmont, Carina, Cannon Hill and Murarrie.
